I just want to say if you are ever in Moyogalpa, this is a must stop restaurant. I am so glad that we stopped by to experience what this place had to offer. First of all the food was amazing, it was so fresh and you could tell it was high quality! The atmosphere was very welcoming, with some water fountains, some nice music, beautiful natural lighting as well as some really impressive decor of live plants and neat local artwork. And of course last but not least, the customer service was absolutely phenomenal! John the owner was extremely kind, was willing to go out of his way to make sure we had an enjoyable experience. I could tell and feel from his presence that he truly cares about his customers and works hard to ensure we had an enjoyable experience. One of the big takeaways I will always remember was the sincere hospitality of John and the rest of the staff at El Picante. Like I said, if you are ever in Moyogalpa, this restaurant is a must stop! The food was so good, I forgot to take a picture of the food before I ate it, lol :P, A Must Stop for Sure!
I absolutely loved this spot and am glad we stopped in. The owner, John really makes this place come alive! He's such a kind man and has a beautiful restaurant with flowers you can tell he's been hand crafting for years. His cat, Tequila was so sweet and a great added addition. The food was perfect, I couldn't ask for anything more from start to finish. While on the island, I'd absolutely recommend stopping in here for the experience! Thanks for everything, John!!!
We had a great meal, food and service were perfect. The owner is such a nice guy and we even had free shots with him! Such a nice environment and would definitely recommend.
This restaurant has everything a traveler should want, and you won’t find better California-inspired Mexican food in all of Nicaragua.nnThe owner, Jean(?), is a wonderfully cool dude. We got to talking about topics ranging from Lionel Richie to his early life in the Congo to his time in San Francisco in the mid-1980’s. I’m sure his memoir would be a best seller.nnIf you’re in Ometepe and have a couple of free hours, come here and enjoy a few chips & salsa followed by some top-notch chicken enchiladas.
Amazing dinner! Jean is the man :) he gave us great food recommendations and tips for the island! If you are in town must go!
The owner opened the restaurant even though we were 30 minutes before the actual opening time (we came by ferry). Five star service and a great conversation. Next to that the food was super tasty.nnThank you for having us
I don't write reviews at all, but today I have a premiere. I found this restaurant thanks to the great reviews, I was looking forward to it for a few days and it absolutely did not disappoint me at all. Not only was the food from the starter homemade tortilla chips to the main course enchiladas absolutely delicious, but as a bonus the owner is a person with such a huge heart who does his job with love and a smile. In addition to the services, he chatted with us and even gave us a bottle of alcohol to say goodbye. I am very sorry that we are already leaving the island and I cannot return soon. Thank you very much from the bottom of our hearts. Good luck with your business. Chicos de la republica checa
A really nice, cozy restaurant with delicious food. A small map where everyone will find something. there were also vegetarian dishes. The freshly squeezed juices were particularly delicious. The service was excellent and the owner was totally friendly. Highly recommended.
Really amazing place in Moyogalpa! The food was excellent, drinks amazing and the owner is so lovely and welcoming - highly recommend!! :)
Cool little spot for dinner or drinks. The Owner is beyond nice and is eager for a chat. The chicken fajitas and the chicken enchiladas were super tasty! Looking forward to another dinner here
We went to this small restaurant twice as a family.nThe restaurant owner is really very welcoming.nThe food is good, well prepared and presented.nnContrary to a previous opinion, the price is perfectly correct and consistent.
Undoubtedly the most overpriced restaurant I have visited in Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras or Nicaragua. One or two sides for my quesadillas wasn't seasonally available yet nothing was substituted and the price wasn't adjusted. No selections had corn tortillas, only flour....what Mexican restaurant doesn't have corn tortillas? Check my reviews... I'm pretty sure this is the first negative one I've ever left. I'm easily pleased .
Super warm, smiling and generous boss. A real world tour in itself.nnVery good dishes, even better with a delicious Pina Colada!
Great food (small menu), very friendly host and a really nice restaurant.nnNext time again and of course this restaurant is recommended
The restaurant manager is really very nice who takes care of the customers. The meal was delicious (the chicken quesadillas are amazing). I recommend
Gorgeous jungle haven inside the restaurant, yummy vegetarian enchiladas and the owner (didn’t catch his name) is the SWEETEST man and so helpful. Would return for sure!
I finally got here when they were open. First off, I was surprised that they only serve chicken or vegetarian dishes. No beef and no seafood. But, that turned out to be ok. I had Chicken enchiladas, and they were amazing, cheese sauce and a side of what looked like home made hot sauce. The dish came with a nice side of refried beans and rice. All in all, it was delicious, and I would order it again. It was nice to sit at the sidewalk tables with some ice cold bottles of Toña for happy hour. Service was top notch and very friendly. Not a huge menu, but what they serve is excellent. Highly recommend
A very sweet owner, who made our visit to Ometepe unforgettable. Delicious cocktails and good food!
Very nice owner!! Came here the day before he went on vacation for a drink and the day after he stayed open an extra day to receive us. Good service and delicious food!
Mega sweet owner!! Good atmosphere, good service and a big heart
The sweetest and most generous owner and very good food. Would very much recommend!!
A nice Mexican restaurant with a small menu, but all the dishes are delicious and the cocktails are excellent. The owner is very friendly and nice. Highly recommended.
Good Mexican food with very friendly staff. We enjoyed it.
The place is very nice, the owner is very kind, but I found the food to be not very good - it seemed like microwaved rice and reheated enchiladas as well. And we found it very expensive compared to the food on the island.
Best atmosphere and service on ometepe!
A group of us were strolling past El Picante when its charm caught our attention, drawing us inside. The owner greeted us warmly as he fed his dog, Salsa, and we quickly settled in for a drink. What began as a brief stop turned into a delightful experience, with delicious food and a wonderful conversation with the owner. Dining at El Picante turned out to be one of the highlights of my trip to Ometepe.
My friends and I spent the day on Ometepe Island. While walking around the town we noticed El Picante and the interesting sign that the languages spoken inside were Spanish, English, French and Swahili. We decided to stay for food and were immediately greeted by the owner. He was funny, told interesting stories and was helpful with providing information about the ferry service and other recommendations for our trip. The food was excellent as well the service and atmosphere. I highly recommend stopping in here during your trip to Ometepe island and wish nothing but the best for Jean and the business.
Food was absolutely amazing, vegetarian and meat options both brilliant. Atmosphere and owner also brill
My wife and I didn't go to Ometepe to drink and party, but wound up here after some difficult news. Jean, the owner, was a friend to us immediately and we spent the entire evening with him. Great location, great food, best spot in Moyogalpa. This guy is probably the reason we'd return to Ometepe.
Yummy! Lots of mosquitoes.
The place was so cutely decorated, the owner was so kind to us, and the food was incredible. Best food we tried in Moyogalpa. I had the nachos with chicken and my boyfriend had the chicken fajitas. The portions were very generous and I wasn’t even that hungry but I ate the whole plate. It was that good. I’m also not typically a spicy fan but I wanted to be adventurous and try the sauce and it was also amazing!
The food was lovely, the service was quick, and the owner was so friendly. He made sure we had a great experience and I would definitely come back here again
The owner is very impolite. I would not recommend eating here. He has personal issues and likes to harass the customers by talking badly about them to other people.
I finally ate a real Mexican restaurant in my life, and food-wise, I know what I'm talking about. Everything was perfect: excellent food, a relaxed and super friendly welcome, very professional service, not much of a buzz because the city was deserted, but in my opinion, it wouldn't take much for the owner to get the party started.nA superb experience that I highly recommend.
Good food and friendly service. My husband loved the quesadillas!
